I regularly take my 2004 Holden Astra down to the Snow feilds about six hours south of Sydney for weekends of snow fun. Its a cheap car to run pretty comfortable and so far reliable. Also its the only car I have…..
In summary a few friends and I took it for another cheap weekend, made it down there Friday night Skiied and happily Saturday. Our trubles started on returning to our camp site after dinner out. Hitting a wombat squarely on the front of the car. The wombat was dragged off tye road and damage assessed.
It sounded initially bad due to the drinding noise all tye plastic panels made as we pulled off the road. Thecral problem was a badly damaged radiator and no water left in the cooling system.
Not wanting to soend the night in the car I made the desiciin to keep driving and stoo wheb thectenp guage rose to high. We ended up stoping about four times to letvit cool. Also bear in mind it was minus 1.5 degrees out side.
We madecit to canp with the car no longer starting butcwith in waljing distance to Camp. We camped the night hired a car and made it home safely.
Calling around a bit it was going to cost around $1700 tobe towed home and $500 to have it scrapped. A lot of money but and easy way to deal with a car that won’t start stuck in the middle of a natiinal park.
Stay tuned for part two to see what happens next….
