As of the end of last year, the maps module and geocoding stopped working in my lightroom 6.14. After some googling, you find out that has announced that maps are basically no longer offer in older versions of Lightroom, though it is still working in the paid-for version. As this is one of the main features I regularly use in lightroom every now and again I google the issue to see if there are any changes. As a hobbyist, I can’t justify the monthly subscription. But thought the standalone version will be ok over time.

Which essentially changes the API key from adobes to your own. A little baffled that adobe can claim google for the changes but it makes sense that adobe is only paying the map usage fee for their subscription customers. Though I find it hard that adobe elements are the same. Which there is no subscription and I do upgrade fairly regularly.
Anyway, you should read all the info and make your own informed decision on the use of this, but know it is currently working fine for me.
